The Cargo Division of SATS Ltd handles 80% of the airfreight volume coming through Singapore Changi Airport, and is one of the busiest cargo and mail handlers in the world. It provides cargo, mail, express and courier services to over 40 scheduled and ad-hoc airlines operating at Singapore Changi Airport for more than 300 international and local freight forwarders.
SATS owns a total of 6 Airfreight Terminals (AFTs), one Express Courier Centre and a dedicate on-airport perishable handling centre with an annual throughput capacity of 2.1 million tons. The AFTs are equipped with advanced technology and automated Material Handling Systems (MHS) such as Elevating Transfer Vehicles (ETVs), Bridge Vehicles (BVs), Automated Storage Retrieval System (ASRS) and cargo hoists, as well as dedicated facilities for storage of valuables and vulnerable cargo. To facilitate the handling of high volumes of transhipment cargo through the Singapore hub, the AFTs 5 and 6 are linked with a sophisticated ULD highway system to automate the movement of transhipment cargo between the two terminals.
At the heart of our operations is our in-house developed warehouse management system, the COSYS-Intelligent Solutions (COSYS-IS), which is designed to meet the challenges of handling cargo in the most efficient ways and shortest time possible. The COSYS-IS is also web-based and capable of providing real-time flight and shipment tracking information to shippers, consignees and airlines at any time in the convenience of their home or office.
To stay ahead of competition, we improve our efficiency and productivity through equipment upgrades, enhancements, as a forerunner of new projects and initiatives. These include continuous upgrading of the Materials Handling Systems, creation of the Self-Service Concept (that allows consignees to request for cargo delivery at any time anywhere via the Internet) and our latest offering being the first and only on-airport perishable handling centre in Singapore, the Coolport@Changi.
Being the first in the world to apply Radio Frequency technology to airfreight terminal processes, SATS uses Radio Frequency Data Terminals and Radio Frequency Identification Systems to provide real-time, online tracking and update of cargo and Unit Load Device movements in and out, and within our airfreight terminals. Besides having good inventory control, the systems allow greater transparency, accuracy and visibility of the cargo handled throughout the value chain within our airfreight terminals.
Started as an Industry Associate Member of Cargo2000 in 2008, SATS is now the only Ground Handling Agent (GHA) in Singapore certified under the Cargo 2000 quality program & issued with the C2K Quality Certificate.
Besides being ISO9001:2008 and ISO14001:2004 certified, SATS is also a pioneer in the global E-freight program and actively works with the airlines and freight forwarders to reduce the demand for paper documents onboard the aircraft. This is also in-line with SATS’ direction to support global environmental efforts.
As a Class ‘A’ TAPA certified GHA, our comprehensive security system comprises more than 670 close-circuit TVs, a central card access system and 24-hour armed patrol surveillance provided by the SATS Security Services (another subsidiary under the SATS Group), ensuring the complete security of your cargo while in our custody.
